Questions we hear often

When is the best season for a walking safari in Tanzania? +
Walking is possible year-round, but the dry season (June to November) offers the easiest conditions and best wildlife concentrations, while the wet season (December to May) brings the migration to the southern Serengeti plains, lush landscapes and excellent birding. We plan each walk around the season.
What does a Dorobo safari typically cost per day? +
Tailor-made safaris generally fall between $300 and $500+ per person per day depending on accommodation style, group size and routing. Lodges sit at the higher end; Dorobo mobile camps offer the best value in true wilderness. Share your dates and party size and we will propose options within your range.
How big are the groups? +
Most Dorobo safaris are private journeys for one family or group of friends, typically 2 to 8 guests. We can host student and university groups of up to 30, though fewer than 20 is recommended for the best experience.
How fit do I need to be for a walking safari? +
Our walks are designed for anyone comfortable on their feet for a few hours. Terrain is mostly gentle savanna, the pace is slow with frequent stops to read tracks and watch wildlife, and the mobile camp moves ahead so you never carry more than a day pack. Longer treks in Ruaha are more demanding, and we will advise honestly.
How does tailor-made planning work? +
It starts with a conversation: tell us your dates, duration and interests, and we respond personally within 1 to 2 days with ideas and a draft itinerary. We refine it together until it fits, with no obligation until you are happy.
Do I need to plan far in advance? +
For peak seasons (July to October and the December holidays) we recommend 9 to 12 months ahead, as the best camps and guides fill early. Outside peak months we can often arrange journeys on shorter notice.
